Group analysis is a dynamic and inclusive approach to understanding the self in context—whether that’s within a group, a family, a workplace, a creative team, or in society at large. It was created as a specialised form of group psychotherapy, but its principles can be applied to almost any interpersonal situation.

At GASW, we harness the power of the group to foster deep psychological insight, emotional growth, and transformative change across many domains of life.

Whether you’re seeking therapy, professional development, or a deeper understanding of how groups shape us, GASW is a place to think together, feel together, and grow together.

GASW Foundation Weekend January 2026 – Summary Report

At the end of January, GASW ran its introductory weekend “Working with Groups”, which aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of group analytic thinking and practice. We were joined by thirteen attendees from a range of professional backgrounds for a full weekend of workshops, small experiential groups and combined ‘median’ groups. It was a pleasure to meet new people interested in developing their understanding of the groups they are part of, many of whom expressed an interest in further training, and we received some highly encouraging feedback.

Participants valued the “positive” and “enriching” learning experience, especially noting the impactful nature of the small experiential groups, which were described as “deep”, “transformative” and “skilfully conducted”. People said the workshops were thought-provoking, and that the event challenged assumptions about psychodynamic traditions, noting a sense of warmth, care, and anti‑oppressive awareness.

Using feedback from the weekend, we are currently reviewing the structure and content of our year-long Foundation Course, which will begin in September. The aim is to ensure it is inclusive, relevant and adapted to modern vocational contexts. We look forward to welcoming a new group of curious and open-minded individuals onto the programme.
